http://www.storytimeforme.com/

This site provides a library of free, interactive eBooks…

“Our mission is to instill in children a love of reading and creative thinking by providing an interactive alternative to TV viewing and video gaming that makes reading fun.  Our free online book library is not designed to take away from traditional reading, rather it is to replace the time kids are spending watching TV and playing video games.”

Minecraft

Minecraft is a student friendly open-ended virtual environment that promotes student higher level thinking skills, exploration, and experimentation in solving problems and challenges. It reminds me of what playing with Legos would be if you could drop you students into a world of Legos.

This game is still in beta, and currently there is not a free version. The author is charging a small fee to help fund his continued development of the software.  It’s worth a look!

Mastery Club was developed by Mrs. Renz, a teacher up in Oregon ( I believe…). She gives her students opportunities to learn and learn and learn… She also has graciously make all her work available to other teachers who would like to use it with their students. All she asks is a shout-out telling telling how you plan to use it. Give it a look!

Contxts

http://www.contxts.com

An easy way to share contact information with others via SMS. Or, if you’re a clever teacher, you could share any type of information via this tool, Homework, Class News, Important Announcements, etc., etc. There does appear to be a character limit on the number of characters you can type.

The way it works is you get a code to give your interested parties, mine happens to be: jpatten.

Then just text that code to 50500. So if you want to try it out text jpatten to 50500 :-)
